Shot this video last night of my male and female Paratilapia Polleni. It's the best they've looked (that the male has looked) in a long time. Not long after I bought them, the male developed fin rot on both pectoral fins. I treated it multiple times but was never able to knock it out and the fins were heavily damaged. It seems to have stunted his growth and resulted in the female being the more dominant of the two. His colors had faded, but he was holding his own.
A couple of months ago, I was in a local fish store and they happened to have a lone Polleni mixed in with a bunch of Herichthys Cyanoguttatus (Texas Cichlids). They didn't know what it was, so I bought him for $5. A really good price around here, especially given how difficult they can be to find.
Anyway, I let the little guy grow out for a couple of months in a 55 then moved him to the 125 yesterday to see how they'd interact. He was a bit smaller, so my hope was they'd let him acclimate without too much aggression. They were fine for a couple of hours, but eventually the male and female Polleni teamed up to go after him. They didn't do any real damage before I got him out of there. I was thinking he'd eventually replace the male, but I guess the old guy still has a lot of fight left in him.
It's great to see them looking this good. They've really been growing of late, too.
