Garden pond in recent years
Still cleaning up the pond, so I thought I'd post some pictures from previous summers when it looked a little better. This first pic is from August 2012. The statue water feature was a hand me down from my grandfather. It was kind of fun and worked for a while until the base cracked and fell apart.
This was the pond when it probably had its most vegetation. It was pretty much covered from one end to the other.
For me, the plants around the pond make the setting as much as those I grow in the water. I've done petunias, begonias, hibiscus, a peace lily and many more (ferns obviously). Anything that flowers or has interesting foliage.
Lily blooming.
Here is what the pond looked like in 2011. Not quite as overgrown. I have used the island in the middle for a flower pot before and probably will do that again this year.
Usually I keep gold fish in the pond, but a couple of years ago, I did keep a pair of Green Sunfish. They survived the winter and spawned in the spring. It was pretty cool. Here is a pic of one of them in March of that year. Not real easy to see.
